Gangwon-do(Hongcheon-gun)

Hongcheon Ginseng Hanu Myeongpum Festival is held annually in early October in the city of Hongcheon. The natural clean air and water help this area to have excellent quality ginseng and hanu (Korean beef), for which it is famous. Inside the festival venue is a self-serve restaurant for visitors to try Hongcheon hanu, and visitors can also purchase six-year aged ginseng at a discounted price. In addition, Hongcheon Narakkot Mugunghwa Festival is held at the same period, giving tourists the chance to partake in diverse programs. Nearby attractions include Hongcheon Gingko tree forest, opened only for a short time each year in early October and selected as the best area for healing.


Gangwon-do(Jeongseon-gun)

The Mindungsan Eulalia Festival takes place in the Mindungsan Mountain area. Some of the events held include weekend mountain climbing, talent contests, Arirang singing contests, eulalia music concerts, a Mindungsan Gate ball competition and eulalia photo exhibition. Hands-on programs at the festival include a local food program, post card sending, mountain horseback riding and much more!


Gangwon-do(Chuncheon-si)

Held for the first time in 1989, the Chuncheon Puppet Festival is celebrating its 27th anniversary this year. Aside from the puppet performances, there will also be plenty of side events to entertain children and adults alike.


Gangwon-do(Hwacheon-gun)

The Hwacheon Jjokbae Festival is more like a carnival with exotic and original rafts in competition. The winner takes home a cash prize, and many people, especially families and friends, participate in this one-of-a-kind summer experience. The Hwacheon Jjokbae Festival is a time for visitors to come together in the spirit of tradition and decorate the waters of the Hwacheon River with creatively designed tradition watercraft. The festival also includes water sports and various other events, totaling approximately 40 different programs. Festival Guide: The jjokbae (raft) contest has no limitations on the size or design, as long as the raft can hold up to 5 persons. Participants can enter the contest online. The rafts must function manually only, and must be self-designed and manufactured by the participants who will also personally ride the raft during the festival. This year, festival programs include a farm-stay for families, picnics, fishing by hand, a water treasure hunt, water balloon games, water gun games, and more water-related events. Also, bicycle riding, hiking, canoeing, underwater soccer, and more events that are offered to provide maximum enjoyment to all visitors. There is also an Indian Cultural Village, which offers a chance to experience Indian culture, and rabbit farm experiences are available for those seeking a more family-oriented activity. Also, programs include educational activities such as a trout and aquatic life aquarium, an otter life exhibition, and much more. Festival Highlights: The highlight of Hwacheon Jjokbae Festival is of course the jjokbae raft contest. The participants really make the contest more enjoyable with their unique costumes and creative boat-designs shown off during the water parade. To make the contest more fun, all participants prepare an item to reflect each year’s theme.  


Gangwon-do(Yeongwol-gun)

The Danjong Culture Festival, a major festival of Yeongwol-gun in Gangwon-do, is scheduled to be held for three days from April 25 to 27, 2014 around the Jangneung Tomb area. The festival is a historic cultural event held annually since 1967 in memory of King Danjong (the 6th monarch of the Joseon Dynasty) and his loyal subjects. It was originally called Danjongje and was renamed to Danjong Culture Festival in 1990. In the beginning, it was held for three days starting on the day before Hansik Day, which is April 5 by the Gregorian calendar, except in leap years (the 105th day after Dongji). Since this date changes every year, it was later decided that the festival should be held from the last Friday of April instead.


Gangwon-do(Yeongwol-gun)

The annual Dong Gang International Photo Festival, which began in 2002, is held in and around Dong Gang Museum of Photography in Yeongwol-gun, Gangwon-do Province. This festival showcases various themes of photo exhibitions to cater to visitors’ diversified tastes and interests. Along with the regular programs, the festival will also offer educational programs. The Dong Gang Photography Workshop will feature quality lectures by some of the most photographers and theorists from home and abroad such as an open lecture from renowned photographers. The workshop will provide exciting opportunities for the general public, as well as professional photographers.


Gangwon-do(Goseong-gun)

To ensure a good haul and community prosperity, this festival is held at Geojinhang Port, known as the primary place of Pollack fish in Korea. The festival includes numerous hands-on events such as a sea festival, a cultural festival, and a local culture experience. The festival has helped the city to promote their local seafood, farm products and other specialties, thus contributing to the growth of the local economy.  


Gangwon-do(Chuncheon-si)

The Rainbow Island Music & Camping Festival is held In Namiseom Island. The festival will star a number of musicians of different genres, including several DJ crews. Visitors can enjoy the music while they camp outdoors in the beautiful Namiseom Island.

The Jeongdongjin area became famous after the filming of the wildly popular drama, ‘Sandglass.’ The festival attracts hundreds of thousands of visitors every year and tickets for the special, ‘Sunrise Train’ to Jeongdongjin usually see out months before the festival. Scenic pine trees, the emerald-blue sea, majestic cliffs, a tranquil coast, and rustic railways make Jeongdongjin one of the top tourist destinations in Korea.


Gangwon-do(Hoengseong-gun)

Every year, Hanu (Korean native cattle) Festival takes places in Hoengseong County, where the climate and the environment are said to be perfect for raising cattle. The festival attracts a large number of people, who come to try the usually expensive Hoengseong hanu beef at affordable prices, along with another specialty of Hoengseong County, deodeok (mountain bellflower). In addition to food sampling, the festival holds diverse agriculture experience programs, while offering access to nearby attractions such as Hoengseong Hot Springs and Jucheongang River Natural Forest Lodge.
