Serving as the boundary between Jeollanam-do and Gyeongsangnam-do, the Seomjingang River (섬진강) boasts the cleanest water among Korea’s five largest rivers. Every March the Baegunsan Mountain (백운산) at the downstream of Seomjingang River is covered with plum blossoms. Seomjin Village, in Gwangyang, Jeollanam-do – alias Maehwa (Plum Blossom) Village (매화마을) – has a vast wild field of more than 132,231m2 entirely covered with plum blossoms. 100,000 plum trees blossoming all together offer a magnificent view. North of the village is Hwagaejangteo marketplace (화개장터) and east of it is Pyeongsa-ri, the main setting for Park Gyeong-ri’s saga novel The Land. People gathering Jaecheop (clean water clams), below the farm in the mud flats of the Seomjingang River, offers a great view. The ‘Maehwa Festival’ or Plum Blossom Festival is held in Seomjin Village every March.

The Homigot Lighthouse was built using bricks in a modern architectural style. This octagonal, six-story building is 26.4 meters high. The entrance and windows feature gable decorations, which is a popular Greek Revival style. The ceiling is dome-shaped and the octagonal plane gets wider towards the bottom. The light of the lighthouse can reach as far as 35 kilometers away. Because the building was built using bricks only and no reinforcing rods, it is recognized for its use of outstanding architectural technique. The ceiling on each floor is sculpted in the shape of pear blossoms, a symbol of the Joseon royalty. This adds to the lighthouse’s considerable value as a cultural asset. Next to the lighthouse is the National Lighthouse Museum.

Tongdo Fantasia (통도 환타지아) is located in Yangsan, Gyeongsangnam-do Province, which shares borders with Milyang, Ulsan and Busan. This makes the amusement park very accessible by any means of transportation. Tongdo Fantasia operates Tongdo Country Club as well, and nearby Tongdosa Temple (통도사) is also available for visitors who want to look around the local historic sites. The amusement park, the biggest theme park in Gyeongsangnam-do Province sitting at the foot of Mt. Yeongchwisan (영취산), has over 30 amusement facilities, a large-scale swimming pool, a natural lake, a plaza available for holding various events and a large-scale outdoor theatre, all offering various activities and events.

Sondo Yonggung Suspension Bridge connects the renovated Songdo Cloud Bridge from Songdo Beach to Geobukseom Island and extended from Amnam Park to Dongseom Island. Visitors can enjoy the thrill of walking above the waters while enjoying the beautiful view in this 127 meters long bridge. Jindo Bridge is the only twin cable-stayed bridge in Korea. It measures 484m in length and 11.7m in x_width, and is located between Nokjin, Gunnae-myeon, Jindo-gun and Hakdong, Munnae-myeon, Haenam-gun on National Road No.18. The bridge has been a popular tourist attraction since its completion on Octover 18th, 1984. On December 15th, 2005, the second Jindo Bridge opened. Visitors can observe the breath-taking beauty of the sunset and evening views from the bridge while enjoying the fantastic nearby scenery. Uldolmok is also known as the location of Myeongnyang Daecheop, one of the three major naval battles won by Admiral Yi Sun-sin. Uldolmok, a passage to the West Sea, is a strait between Haenam and Jindo. The x_width of the strait is only 294m, which is similar to that of the Hangang River. The Jindo Bridge is the most accessible gateway to Jindo Island, a place with many local specialties and unique cultural arts.

Pohang Airport is located in the city of Pohang, Dogu-ri, Donghae-myeon, Nam-gu, Pohang-si, Gyeongsangbuk-do. The airport is approximately 11.5 km away from Pohang City Hall, and 5 km away from Posco (Pohang Iron and Steel Company) in the direction of Guryongpo. After renovation, the airport offers wider parking area and various subsidiary facilities giving more comfortable service for visitors.  

Paroho Lake (파로호) is a manmade lake created when Hwacheon Dam was built in the valley of the Bukhangang River (북한강). The lake is capable of holding up to one billion tons of water and the Dam of Peace is located further upstream. You can enjoy the beautiful scenery of Mt Il and Wolmyeongbong Peak as well as the thick forest and pristine valleys in the surrounding area. As Paroho Lake’s unpolluted water is home to many kinds of freshwater fish such as carp, crucian carp, catfish and mandarin fish, the lake is gaining popularity as an excellent fishing spot.

Mt. Biseulsan stands at the edge of Cheongdo-gun and Dalseong-gun. It is not such a high mountain, but because of its scenic beauty and clean air, it’s an easy place to want to visit again. Mt. Biseulsan has long been known as a temple place, and according to the legends it’s to produce a thousand saints from its regions. Famous monk Il-Yeon (monk scholar of the Goryeo Period) apparently spent his 20s here, training for his career as a monk. At that time Il-Yeon spent his time in the Bodangam Building learning about various faiths and their scriptures, and it became a solid basis from which to write his famous Samgukyusa, a compilation of the history of the three kingdoms). The most beautiful aspect of Mt. Biseulsan is the Azaleas that blossom in the spring. Painted crimson red, the flowers harmonize perfectly with the complementary colors of the surrounding forest. All through the year, the pine forest fills the mountain, and the broad-leaf trees come alive in the fall in all their brilliant autumn colors in perfect harmony with the fantastic looking rocks of the mountain peaks. Large areas of the ridge tops become covered with purple eulalias, and it provides a majestic view for the fall mountain climbers.
