The primary source of Geumgang River is a spring called ‘Ddeunbong’ in Subun-ri, Jangsu-gun, Jeollabuk-do, which flows to the north. At Changnam, it changes direction and enters Bangu-ri, Buri-myeon, Geumsan-gun. From here, the river flows through steep mountains. At Sutong-ri, the precipitous cliffs of a mountain named ‘Jeokbyeok’ tower proudly above, and where the river runs under these steep cliffs it is called the ‘Jeokbyeokgang River’ (적벽강).‘Jeokbyeok’ literally means ‘red walls’ in Korean. The Geumgang River under Jeokbyeok is as calm as a peaceful lake with long sandy shores. This riverbank is alive with beautiful flowers in spring, green pine trees in summer, and in fall, the green gives way to an autumnal tint, until lovely snowscapes blanket the area in winter. A fisherman in his boat in the middle of the river makes the landscape more picturesque. In summer, the Jeokbyeokgang River’s banks can become quite crowded with visitors.

National Center for Forest Activities Chuncheon is 335 ha of area located near Samhangol Valley. The center has a slogan PLAY meaning P for Play, L for Lead, A for Act, and Y for You. Located in Galmal-eup in Cheorwon, Gangwon-do Province, Sambuyeon is a 20-meter high waterfall. The waterfall has a mystic impression with water cascading all year round without ever drying and surrounded by strangely shaped rocks. The waterfalls in three different areas, creating a shape that resembles a Gamasot, a traditional Korean metal cauldron used for making rice since the old days. There is also a local legend that a dragon flew into the air from this waterfall, hence the name Yonghwa-dong (yong meaning dragon) for the village. The area is very clean as there are no restaurants and convenience facilities. About a kilometer away is Yeougol Village, which is the site of the legend where a father who once killed a fox almost had a fox marry his son.

Located at the base of Heukseoksan Mountain, Gahaksan Recreational Forest is a recommended vacation spot for forest and valleys and has beautiful azaleas on display during the azalea festival held every March. There are also new nice lakes near the valley. In addition, the general mountain cottage was remodeled to add a red-clay room and there is also a water park facility.

After opening its first branch in COEX in May 2000, the Megabox movie theater franchise has grown to include locations in Seoul, Busan, Daegu, Ulsan, and Gwangju. Gwangju Folk Museum opened in 1987 as the largest museum operated by a city government in Korea. It was established for the purpose of preserving valuable Korean folk relics and putting them on exhibit to increase the public's cultural awareness of them.
