Chungcheongnam-do()

The origin of Biamsa Temple is unknown, but the temple's architectural features suggest that it was built during the mid Goryeo Dynasty period (918-1392). The Geungnakbojeon Hall and the three-storied pagoda inside the temple have been designated as Cultural Properties of Chungcheongnam-do Province. The flamboyang and delicately crafted datjip (canopy) inside the Geungnakbojeon Hall was restored in 1657 during the 8th year of King Hyojong's reign. In the yard in front of the Geungnakbojeon Hall stands the three meter-high Samcheungseoktap (three-storied stone pagoda). With the discovery of Samyeongunsang stone statues near the top of the pagoda, Biamsa Temple became more widely known to the public. Among the stone statues, Gyeyumyeongjeonssi-amitabul-samjonseoksang (three Buddha statues) has been named as National Treasure No. 106, and Gichukmyeong-amitayeorae-jebulbosalseoksang (statue of Amitabha bodhisattva) and Mireukbosal-bangaseoksang (statue of Maitreya bodhisattva) have been designated as National Treasures No. 367 and No. 368, respectively. The stone statues are preserved in National Museum of Korea. Meanwhile, the three-storied stone pagoda was designated as Tangible Cultural Property No. 119 of Chungcheongnam-do Province on July 19, 1985.

Jeollanam-do(Jindo-gun)

Modo Island was once called Ttiseom because of the Ttipul grasses on the island. Ttipul is type of grass native to Korea. It was also called Ttiseom because there were many houses with thatched roofs made with dried Ttipul on the island. The name Modo means Ttiseom in Chinese characters. Every year when the sea parts to reveal a path betwen Modo Island and Jindo Island, the Yeongdeungje ritual is held to wish for a good catch and blessings. It is also a local tradition for people from Jindo and Modo to meet on the sea path to catch clams, seaweed, and octopus. At the starting point of the path, there is statue of Grandma Ppong whom the legend of the Jindo sea-parting phenomenon was based on. * Size: 0.21 ㎢ * Length of the coastline: 2.5 km

Chungcheongbuk-do(Danyang-gun)

Seonam Valley includes three of the eight sceneries in Danyang, the Sangseon Rock, Junseon Rock, and Haseon Rock (Haseon-am). The valley flows in from Mt. Wolaksan, and because it is big and has many interesting looking rocks, it has been famous for a long time. Among the rocks, the area that has the Haseon Rock is said to be the most beautiful in Seonam Valley. Divided into 3 horizontal layers, the white rock is 3 km long, and has large, round rocks stacked on top of each other. The way the area blends in with the surrounding mountains is especially beautiful in the spring, when the azaleas bloom, and in the fall when the leaves turn color. In the Haseon Rock region, there are places where you can stay overnight, so you can enjoy being near the water and stay the night. Past Haseon Rock is Jungseon Rock, where the water currents are not strong, and many trees provide shade, so you can play in the water. But it is not a fit place to spend the night. From Jungseon rock, if you go travel up the river, you will come to Sangseon Rock. This area has many interesting looking rocks, and if you go just a bit further up, you can see the Teukseon Rock. Teukseon Rock has facilities where you can spend the night. It is one of the great tour sites where you can enjoy the view of fancy rocks and clean valley water as you rest. Tourists especially frequent it in the summer looking for cool valleys and mountain water.

The myriad of rocks near the sea are great for fishing. The beach is a popular spot to watch the sunrise.
