Lee Hyo-seok Culture Village
Gangwon-do(Pyeongchang-gun)

The Lee Hyo-Seok Culture Village is the place where the author Lee Hyo-Seok (penname “Gasan”) was born and raised. The village is also the setting of the author’s story "When the Buckwheat Blossoms,” one of the most celebrated Korean short stories to date. In 1990, the village place was designated ‘the first national cultural village,’ by the Ministry of Culture and Tourism. The village is comprised of the author's birth house, a water mill, Chungjujip, Gasan Park, Lee Hyo-Seok Memorial Hall, and the buckwheat museum. At the x_height of the blossoming season, you can enjoy the beautiful scenery of snowy-white fields of buckwheat flowers and from late August to early September, the annual Lee Hyo-Seok Cultural Festival takes place. The Lee Hyo-Seok Cultural Festival commemorates the modern Korean writer and features buckwheat-themed programs. Events include a Hyo-seok essay contest, traditional performances, a costume parade, a photo contest, and "When the Buckwheat Blossoms" films and performances. During the festival, visitors can enjoy makguksu (buckwheat noodles) and buchim (buckwheat pancakes) and tour the locations that appear in the famous short story.

Recently, the main route to the resort, Yeongdong Highway, has been expanded, and the resort’s main facilities and condominiums have all been remodeled as well to better accommodate the guests.

The Museum of Traditional Music (Gugak) features the Korean first gugak museum, holding about 6,000 pieces of gugak-related materials and relics which have both historical and cultural values. It is comprised of seven themed permanent exhibition halls that present 250 pieces of audio and video clips regarding gugak. In the 3D room, visitors can enjoy 3D animation at all times. Also, various interesting, special and planned exhibitions are held.

Charmsori Gramophone & Edison Science Museum

Charmsori Gramophone & Edison Science Museum founded by Son Seongmok is the largest gramophone museum in the world. It has a collection of 4,500 phonographs, 150,000 phonograph records, 1,000 books, and 5,000 items from 20 nations.1) World of Sound: The place for history of Sound. It displays gothic and renaissance organs, music boxes, radios and record players.2) World of Image: The place for silent films and biography films of masterminds and Edison. It displays Edison projectors and televisions, especially one made by Baird, John Logie (1888.8.13 ~ 1946.6.14) in 1925.3) World of Light: Displays items from Gas lamps to the original light bulb that Edison made, an electric generator of those days, the bamboo filament light bulb and the first wall-attached electric lamp. The wall-attached electric lamp is the part of the collection that was successfully accepted at Sotheby's auction in 1992.4) Edison Invention Hall: Displays 850 inventions of Edison's, including t three of his greatest inventions - phonographs, light bulbs and projectors. Gyeongsangbuk-do(Pohang-si)

Pohang steel mill was created in the early 1980s at Yeongilman Bay with a view of breaking away from the agriculture-centered industry of the 1960s and launching the area into the heavy chemical industry. The construction of the steel mill lasted from 1970 to 1981. At the POSCO History Center, visitors can learn how the steel mill operates and how POSCO emerged as one of the most competitive companies in the world within just three decades. Suncheonman Bay National Garden
Jeollanam-do(Suncheon-si)

The Suncheon Bay Garden was established in order to turn 1.12 square kilometers of natural habitat into a conservation area, where it houses over 505 species of trees and 113 species of flowers. Especially, the numerous groups of tulips and royal azaleas are truly a sight to see. In addition, the nearby 30,000-square-meter field of canola flowers is in full bloom in May, which creates a beautiful yellow "wave" of color and trees make a great shades of canopy for the area. Getting there is fairly easy as buses and an unmanned shuttle train (PRT) opened along with the Suncheon Bay Garden and Suncheon Literature Center district (4.64 km) are available for service. Visitors can hop on the PRT and go to the literature center, then also ride the train along the 1.2-kilometer stretch of reeds to Mujingyo Bridge.

Cheongchoho Lake
Gangwon-do(Sokcho-si)

Cheongchoho Lake is a lagoon that is connected to the East Sea, with an area of 1.3 Km2 and an approximate circumference of 5 Km. Located in the center of the city, the lake can be viewed easily from downtown Sokcho. Adjacent to Cheongchoho Lake, one of Sokcho’s 8 must-sees, is the Expo Tower, Expo World, and Expo Excursion Steamer. These were constructed for the 1999 Gangwon International Tourism Expo. The Expo tower rises 73.4 meters high with an observatory. An I-MAX theater is located in Expo World and an Ecology Park is nearby. Additionally, the Expo Excursion Steamer can be taken around the entire lake for great views of the surrounding area.

The second floor (‘The Origin and Evolution of Life and its Diversity’) shows the origin of life, the world of the dinosaurs in the Mesozoic Era, the origin of humans, a diversity of land and marine life, and a variety of endangered species. On the 3rd floor, visitors can explore the process of how the earth was created, which culminates in an exhibit on how the Korean Peninsula looks today. On the same floor, dramatically enhanced exhibitions lay open the mysteries of the solar system and explain natural phenomenon such as earthquakes and the creation of caves and rock formations.

Boryeong Mud Skincare Center
