Gyeongsangbuk-do(Cheongsong-gun)

Cheongsong, Gyeongsangbuk-do Province is very famous for its high-quality water. Cheongsong Eoreumgol Valley sits at Okgye Valley in Yeongdeok, Cheongsong-gun County. In this mysterious valley, water freezes during the peak of summer and melts when the temperature falls below 32 degrees Celsius. The most shocking thing though, is that the higher the temperature gets, the thicker the ice! Many people visit here during the summer to taste the cool water or to take in the picturesque views of the surrounding rock formations and the nearby temple. There is also a cliff named Wonja Rock right below the ice valley, which provides a retreat from the heat and gives visitors a beautiful view of the 62 meter-high artifical waterfall. During the wintertime, the waterfall is frozen and many people come to climb the ice wall or participate in the annual Ice Wall Climbing Competition. Even if you're not into sports, the shining wall of frozen water makes for a beautiful site and is a wintertime favorite among the nation's photographers.

Honinji is home to a myth that agriculture and farming started on Jeju Island when the Samsinin (three founding demi-gods) who lived in Jeju married the Samgongju (three princesses) and started raising cattle and ponies and planted the seeds of five grains. There is a pond here called Honinji Pond (pond of marriage) where, according to the legend, the wedding ceremony was held and three caves which served as bridal rooms. Together with Samseonghyeol (three large holes on the ground where the three demigods emerged from), Honinji is a great place for tracing the origin of the founders of Jeju Island. Odusanseong Fortress (오두산성) is built around the strategic summit of the mountain. Its walls stretch across roughly 620 meters and were built during the Baekje Dynasty. The fortress is built on the intersection of the Imjingang River (임진강) and the Hangang River (한강) on the summit of Odusan Mountain (오두산, 119 meters). The mountain’s slope is steep and stones used in the construction of the fortress walls are scattered here and there at the summit. These scattered stones are evidence that the fortress underwent repairs several times during the Samguk (Three Kingdoms) era and the Joseon Dynasty, as these stones were evidently quarried and used to mend the fortress walls. Excavations have discovered a great deal of earthenware, white porcelain, tile, and iron arrowheads. Topographically, the fortress sits on a prime strategic junction and the Unification Observatory has been situated there as well. The fortress stands as an important object of study concerning fortifications and structures from the Baekje Dynasty. It has been recorded on the stele of King Gwanggaeto, samguksagi (History of the Three Kingdoms), in the baekjebongi (Baekje Annals) and on daedongyeojido (Map of Korea) that the fortress was the Gwanmi Fortress of Baekje, attracting many scholars and researchers interested in this period.
