Jeju Nanta Theatre

Jeju opened an exclusive theatre for Nanta, a non-verbal performance, which has now become a representative cultural tourist item in Korea, on April 2008. The Jeju Theatre for Nanta, located at Art Theater of Jeju Media Center, has a total of 336 seats inclusive of 128 of VIP seats and 208 of S-class seats. Visitors may enjoy the exciting rhythm of Nanta, which is marking its 11th year in Jeju Island, a natural tourist attraction in Korea. The non-verbal performance has become one of the most popular events among local/international visitors to Jeju as the place has relatively fewer leisure activities to do at night.

Uireung Royal Tomb [UNESCO World Heritage]
Seoul(Seongbuk-gu) , The Eastern Part of the Seoul

Uireung (의릉) is the royal tomb of King Gyeongjong (1688-1724, reign 1720-1724), the 20th ruler of the Joseon Dynasty, and his second wife, Queen Seonui (1705-1730).King Gyeongjong was the first son of King Sukjong and Janghuibin, who was one of King Sukjong’s concubines. King Gyeongjong, who was born weak and anemic, died only four years after becoming king, without any great political achievements. As a results, queen Seonui became the crown princess in 1718 and queen in 1720 when King Gyeongjong ascended to the throne. She is known to have had a kind heart and prudent personality.Uireung’s tombs differ from the other royal double tombs in that they are not placed side-by-side. Instead, according to geomantic theory, one tomb has been placed directly behind the other one. The arrangement also shows that when making tombs, Korean ancestors did their best to protect the natural environment.

Gudeurae Park
Chungcheongnam-do(Buyeo-gun)

Located at the western end of Mt. Buso along the Baekma River, the Gudeurae region boasts beautiful scenery and a well-developed sculpture park. The port in the region acted as an entrance to the Sabi Castle during the Baekje Dynasty and today serves as a dock for the cruise ship that travels up and down the Baekma River. Restaurants serving delicious regional cuisine are located near the dock, making the area a recommended tourist location for visitors who are looking for a combination of natural beauty and flavorful culinary delights.Gudeurae was designated a Korea tourist region in 1985. Following the official designation, a sculpture park housing 59 sculptures was established in the area. Thirty of the works of art were crafted by sculptors residing in Gudeurae who are known for skills that have been handed down from artists dating back to the Baekje Period. The other 29 pieces are from Korean and overseas artists who participated in the International Modern Sculpture Symposium in 1999. The sculptures bring about a sense of beauty that reflects the region’s history as well as modern art, making the park a popular tourist site and retreat for residents. A monument built in memory of a well-known folk song describing the beauty of Gudeurae is also located in the region.

Petite Joong-Ang Family Museum

Petite Joong-Ang Family Museum is a family-owned museum that showcases the antiquities of Oriental medicine, as practiced by a local family for three generations or 90 years in the city of Yangnyeong known for its 350-year-old medicinal herb market. The tools used by the family including scales, medicine bowls, prescriptions and manuscripts of Oriental medicine tell the history of Oriental medicine in Korea as well as the family's dedication to treatment with Oriental medicine. The museum serves its visitors with healthy Oriental medicine tea, while the living family members offer free medical consultation.

Museum of Oriental Embroidery
Gangwon-do(Gangneung-si)

The Museum of Oriental Embroidery, opened January 11, 2011, exclusively displays the beautiful works crafted by women of the past. Over 500 pieces of Oriental embroidery from Korea, China and Japan are on display, and another 100 Western embroidery works are also displayed in a special exhibition hall. In this cultural space, one can discover the aesthetic world of Oriental embroidery.

National Maritime Museum
Jeollanam-do(Mokpo-si)

The National Maritime Museum is the only domestic marine museum. Opened in 1994, it is a 2-story building with a B1 floor. There are 4 main exhibit halls and one special exhibit hall. At Exhibition 1, "Underwater Cultural Heritage from Wando," about 3,000 Goryeo ceramic relics excavated from just off the Eoduri sea, Wando district, and the Wooden ship of the Goryeo (918~1392) dynasty are exhibited. The Wando ship is a model of the original boat, half the size of the original ship. You can view the landscape around the old sea and learn about the world’s marine excavation history in this exhibition hall. At Exhibition 2, “Underwater Cultural Heritage from Sinan," you can view 22,000 pieces of 14th century Chinese ships, crockery and golden-ware. At Exhibition 3, "The Life of a Korean Fishing Village," you can learn about the traditional fishing techniques and tools, and you can view the living conditions of those times. It is interesting to compare the fishing methods of today to the past. And at Exhibition 4, "Korean Traditional Boats," you can see the development of Korean shipping and shipbuilding. There are many models displayed, from the ships of the Goryeo dynasty to the oilers of today. The rabbit and turtle shaped ships are quite eye-catching. When you have finished touring all the exhibit halls, take a stroll down the lounge to the souvenir shop to relax. On clear warm days, it is soothing to sit in the lounge under the warm sun. The sunshine coming through the window is brilliant. After a break, you can go outside to the outdoor exhibit, and enjoy seeing more traditional ships. National Institute of Biological Resources

Opened in October 2007, National Institute of Biological Resources has the largest collection preservation facilities in Asia. The institute collects, preserves, manages, and conducts research on biological resources with the aim of growing into a biological resource hub of North East Asia.The institute is comprised of the spine-shaped collections and research centers and the leaf-shaped exhibition and education centers. The exhibition hall has 3,905 specimens of 1,287 native species on display. Korea's diverse ecosystems are recreated as highly detailed dioramas at the exhibition hall. A small restaurant is located inside the research center, and the extensive grass field in front of the institute provides an ideal picnic spot.
