‘Goryeo Daejanggyeong,’ also known as the Eighty-thousand Tripitaka or the Tripitaka Koreana, is a set of ancient Buddhist scripture woodblocks housed in Haeinsa Temple in Hapcheon-gun County or Gyeongsannam-do. Venerated as the assemblage of Korean philosophical culture, the Tripitaka is desginated as a UNESCO World Cultural Heritage, and also was listed on the UNESCO Memory of the World register in June 2007.
A myriad of special exhibitions and programs are scheduled to be held during the festival period in order to raise awareness of the meaning and value of the ancient woodcrafts, while sustaining the thousand-year-old wisdom of the Tripitaka in the new era.
