National Maritime Museum
Jeollanam-do(Mokpo-si)

The National Maritime Museum is the only domestic marine museum. Opened in 1994, it is a 2-story building with a B1 floor. There are 4 main exhibit halls and one special exhibit hall. At Exhibition 1, "Underwater Cultural Heritage from Wando," about 3,000 Goryeo ceramic relics excavated from just off the Eoduri sea, Wando district, and the Wooden ship of the Goryeo (918~1392) dynasty are exhibited. The Wando ship is a model of the original boat, half the size of the original ship. You can view the landscape around the old sea and learn about the world’s marine excavation history in this exhibition hall. At Exhibition 2, “Underwater Cultural Heritage from Sinan," you can view 22,000 pieces of 14th century Chinese ships, crockery and golden-ware. At Exhibition 3, "The Life of a Korean Fishing Village," you can learn about the traditional fishing techniques and tools, and you can view the living conditions of those times. It is interesting to compare the fishing methods of today to the past. And at Exhibition 4, "Korean Traditional Boats," you can see the development of Korean shipping and shipbuilding. There are many models displayed, from the ships of the Goryeo dynasty to the oilers of today. The rabbit and turtle shaped ships are quite eye-catching. When you have finished touring all the exhibit halls, take a stroll down the lounge to the souvenir shop to relax. On clear warm days, it is soothing to sit in the lounge under the warm sun. The sunshine coming through the window is brilliant. After a break, you can go outside to the outdoor exhibit, and enjoy seeing more traditional ships. Cheongchoho Lake

Cheongchoho Lake is a lagoon that is connected to the East Sea, with an area of 1.3 Km2 and an approximate circumference of 5 Km. Located in the center of the city, the lake can be viewed easily from downtown Sokcho. Adjacent to Cheongchoho Lake, one of Sokcho’s 8 must-sees, is the Expo Tower, Expo World, and Expo Excursion Steamer. These were constructed for the 1999 Gangwon International Tourism Expo. The Expo tower rises 73.4 meters high with an observatory. An I-MAX theater is located in Expo World and an Ecology Park is nearby. Additionally, the Expo Excursion Steamer can be taken around the entire lake for great views of the surrounding area.

Jeju National Museum

Jeju National Museum houses various remains excavated from ruins, including meaningful relics from the prehistoric age through to the Joseon Dynasty. BENIKEA Jeonju Hansung Tourist Hotel

Jeonju Hansung Tourist Hotel started as an inn for business travelers in 1949. 60 years later, it stands in the center of Jeonju, providing easy access to numerous cultural sites such as the Hanok village (Korean folk village) and the Gaeksa (Jeonju traditional tourist inn). All guest rooms and hallways in the hotel are decorated with Hanji (traditional Korean paper) and red clay wallpaper. Tium Hangeul Museum

The ‘Tium Hangeul Museum’, located in Paju’s Heyri Art Valley (where every structure is a work of art) is the first cultural space dedicated to the Hangeul language. The complex is designed entirely to promote the value of Hangeul to children and young guests. The building houses the Hangeul Experience Center, Studio, and Cultural Space which provide unique facts and information on Hangeul as well as hands-on experiences. At Ggomjirak/Jomulrak Studio, visitors can enjoy the beauty of Hangeul by participating in many of the hands-on cultural experiences. These include making Hangeul glass arts & crafts, designing their own Hangeul t-shirts and enjoying an old-fashioned typewriter on display. Also within the building is the Udangtang Hangeul Factory where kids can learn the history behind the creation of Hangeul while enjoying a variety of animated programs and other fun features. Snacks, seasonal beverages and a range of Hangeul-related products are also available inside the cultural space.
