Doseonsa Temple
Seoul(Gangbuk-gu)

From the last Uidong bus stop, follow the road 2.5km past Jabium and Cheongdam Waterfall to Annyangam and the ‘Mind's Square,’ the first two areas of Doseonsa Temple.Doseonsa Temple was established 1,100 years ago during the latter part of the Silla Kingdom when the renowned Buddhist priest Doseonguksa was traveling through the mountains. After visiting the site, Doseonguksa made a prophecy that led to the construction of the temple. According to legend, he used only his walking stick to carve the large Bodhisattva that sits at the temple. Interestingly enough, the statues does not show any evidence of chisel marks, further adding to the mystery of how the statue was made.During the 7th year of King Gwangmu of the Joseon Dynasty the Doseonsa Temple was officially named the representative temple of Korea with the purpose of promoting Cheongdamdaejongsa's Korean Buddhism movement, aiming at a religious revival. Due to these special circumstances Deseonsa Temple gained a high reputation and much recognition, which have held strong to this day.Inside the temple, visitors can view the remains and written works of Cheongdamdaejongsa in the Cheongdamdaejongsa Memorial Hall. Next to the road leading to Cheonbuljeon is a pond where you can toss a coin and make a wish and just past Yongammun is a hiking path connecting Baegundae and Insubong. Inside the Ksitigarbha Hall are portraits of President Park Chung-hee, Yuk Yeong-su, and Hyundai Chairman Chung Ju-yung. In front of the hall is a tree that is said to have been planted by a Buddhist priest who brought it from India 200 years ago. Historical artifacts can be found throughout the temple.

Gangneung Danoje Festival

The Gangneung Danoje Festival was designated a Masterpiece of the Oral and Intangible Heritage of Humanity by UNESCO in 2005 and is Important Intangible Cultural Property No. 13 in Korea in 1967. The festival serves to preserve the folk culture of the Joseon Dynasty and has been a popular festival since 1975.Danoje Festival includes rituals such as the Daegwallyeong Guksa Seonghwangje (a tribute to Monk Beomil, believed to protect Gangneung) and Yeongsinje (a deity greeting ritual). Folk performances, ssireum wrestling, swing riding, and tug-of-war competitions follow these rituals. During the Danoje Festival, visitors are also invited to participate in various events: watching a traditional wedding ceremony, making surichui rice cake, washing one's hair in iris-infused water, and drinking alcoholic beverages offered to the gods. There are also regional dialect contests and other cultural programs.

Daejeon Modern History Exhibition Hall

Daejeon Modern History Hall opened to the public on October 1, 2013 at the former main building of Chungcheongnam-do Provincial Government, Daejeon (Registered Cultural Heritage No. 18). Visitors can see various scenes of history and the development of Daejeon over the past 100 years from the early 20th century to current times. Daejeon operates a planned exhibition hall, special exhibition showcasing history, architecture, design, folk style and other varied fields as well as a rotation exhibition. Coffee Love

Coffee-Ae (meaning ‘Coffee Love’) is a coffee shop offering various coffees, teas, cookies, waffles, and wines in a romantic and comfortable setting. Tium Hangeul Museum

The ‘Tium Hangeul Museum’, located in Paju’s Heyri Art Valley (where every structure is a work of art) is the first cultural space dedicated to the Hangeul language. The complex is designed entirely to promote the value of Hangeul to children and young guests. The building houses the Hangeul Experience Center, Studio, and Cultural Space which provide unique facts and information on Hangeul as well as hands-on experiences. At Ggomjirak/Jomulrak Studio, visitors can enjoy the beauty of Hangeul by participating in many of the hands-on cultural experiences. These include making Hangeul glass arts & crafts, designing their own Hangeul t-shirts and enjoying an old-fashioned typewriter on display. Gimhae Hanok Experience Hall

The Gimhae Hanok Experience Hall was built by Gimhae City as part of a project to restore and preserve the structures and culture of Gaya, an ancient kingdom that flourished in the Gimhae area more than a thousand years ago. Operation of the Gimhae Hanok Experience Hall has been entrusted to the Gimhae Culture Foundation.The original plan was to reproduce an enormous eight-building traditional house complete with 99 rooms, which was a symbol of wealth and authority for the nobility of the Joseon Dynasty. However, due to extenuating circumstances, one building could not be built. As a result, the facility is comprised of seven completed buildings housing 85 rooms, including the sarangchae (men’s quarters), anchae (women’s quarters), byeolchae (out-building), araechae (outer-wing building), bakkatchae (outbuilding), haengnangchae (servants’ quarters), and sadang (shrine).The Gimhae Hanok Experience Hall is the pride of Gimhae. On the outside it is a historical recreation of Joseon noble’s house, but on the inside is equipped with modern convenience facilities. Packed with traditional Korean culture and hands-on activities, the hall provides visitors a true immersion into Korea’s proud past.
