The place provides different views depending on the rise and ebb of the tide.

Gyodongdo Island (교동도(강화))

Gyodongdo Island is located northwest of the larger Ganghwado Island, and was made more accessible with the opening of Gyodongdaegyo Bridge in July 2014. The name changed with different dynasties, being Gomokgeunhyeon during the Goguryeo Era and Gyodonghyeon by Silla King Gyeongdeok. The island served as an important stopover point for ambassadors and envoys heading to China. Popular attractions on the island now include Daeryong Market, an alleyway market decorated with colorful murals and statues, and Manghyangdae Memorial, a gathering place for refugees for fled from the nearby Hwanghaedo Island during the Korean War.

Damdamgak

Damdamgak is a hanok (Korean-style house) that was built in the 1930's. Originally a private house, it is now open in the accommodation business. Currently managed by the Ganghwa Hanok Culture Research Institute, the house accommodates visitors looking for a traditional Korean living experience. The original features of the house such as the rafters, girders, and the furnace have been well kept over the long years, offering a great opportunity to experience the traditional style and grace of a hanok.

Daemyeongheon House [Korea Quality] / 남문한옥 대명헌 [한국관광 품질인증/Korea Quality]

Daemyeongheon House is a modern hanok building integrating elements of European architecture. Its interior features design that cannot be found in traditional hanok, such as English herringbone-style floorboards and stained glasses. The kitchen has a well-preserved domestic furnace and items in the style of 1930s, exemplifying the unique atmosphere of this modern hanok. Daemyeongheon is also famous for its connection to Kim Gu (pen-name: Baekbeom), a prominent independence activist: When Kim fled to Ganghwado Island about a hundred years ago, Daemyeongheon was the place he stayed for about three months, and also a place where he presided over a village school. Traces of Kim’s stay can still be found in the building. Daemyeongheon House is made up of three buildings of the main building, a detached building, and an annex. The area that the guests stay in is the annex. The annex has three rooms, a central wooden-floored hall (daecheong), raised floor (numaru), balcony (jjongmaru), and kitchen. The restroom, which is also fitted with a shower booth, is located outside the building. Since reservations are offered to only one group per day, visitors have the house to themselves during their stay. Because of the building’s unique characteristics, guests are prohibited from cooking indoors; instead, guests are provided with a complimentary breakfast, such as bread, tea, coffee, and fruit. Paid programs on site include tea ceremony, azalea craft on traditional Korean paper, retro-style clothing rental, and photography. Guided tours are offered twice per day at 14:00 and 16:00. The tour takes about 0.5–1 hr and requires a fee of KRW 10,000 (including tea). However, visitors should check the date before their visit, as the guided tour is not available when there are any guests staying in the house.

Our hall stands as a testament to the significance of the Sochang textile industry, having been remodeled in 2017 from the original Pyeonghwa Textile mill, which opened in 1956 and served as a cornerstone of the Ganghwa textile sector.         Sochang is an authentic 23-count cotton fabric, traditionally handcrafted from threads derived from the fluff of cotton. Before the advent of disposable diapers, it was widely used for cloth diapers, demonstrating its remarkable softness and absorbency. At the Sochang Experience Hall, we offer the extraordinary opportunity to create your very own hand towel by using traditional stamping techniques. This hands-on activity is free of charge but highly popular, so reservations are recommended. Amidst the timeless elegance of a Hanok, constructed in 1938 and fondly known as the '1938 Hanok,' guests can immerse themselves in a unique tea experience. We primarily serve tea made from roasted turnip, a specialty of Ganghwa Island. Visitors are welcomed to unwind in our serene setting, savoring the rich and refreshing flavors of our turnip tea.   Our doors are open from 10 am to 6 pm, providing a welcoming haven for guests seeking a deeper understanding of Korea's textile heritage. However, please note that we are closed on Mondays. Reimagined in 2016, the Sochang Experience Hall is a beautiful blend of a Hanok built in 1938 and the former Pyeonghwa Textile mill, exuding charm and history in every corner. As a celebration of Ganghwa County's traditional industry, it offers not only an insight into the textile industry's journey from Hwamunseok to Sochang, but also provides interactive experiences such as Sochang hand towel stamping, tea ceremonies, and Sochang weaving demonstrations. Ganghwa Hwangcheong Fishing Site

Hwangcheong Fishing Site, located in Hwangcheongpogu-ro, Naega-myeon, Ganghwa-gun, is a valley-type reservoir that was built in 1993. The site covers an area of about 76033 ㎡, and has an average water level of 2.5-4m with the highest water level being over 15m. The main fish species are crucian carps, common carps, leather carps, Korean bullheads, and pond smelt. Also near the fishing site are other facilities including pensions, bungalows, restaurants and snack bars.
