Paroho Lake
Gangwon-do(Yanggu-gun)

Paroho is a man-made lake that was completed in 1943. The lake was created due to the construction of a hydraulic power plant in Hwacheon during Japanese colonial rule. The name was given after President Syngman Rhee designated a plaque in his own handwriting naming the body of water ‘Paroho Lake.’ The power plant has a generation capacity of 105,000 kilowatts, and the lake is one of the top fishing grounds in Korea as it is abundant in freshwater fish. The area boasts several splendid views and a former President built his country home on the lake. Relics from the Stone Age and New Stone Age were found to be well preserved in the area. Twenty-one dolmens were found on the lake grounds, as well as 4,000 pieces of Prehistoric relics used during Paleolithic age, drawing interest from the academic field. Recently, habitats of mandarin ducks, a national natural monument, were found near the Paroho lakeside.

Donganjae, a traditional Korean style house located near the beach in Donghae City of Gangwon-do, was opened in June 2018. The traditional Korean style house is equipped with modern facilities for convenience while still maintaining the elegant mood of a traditional house. The rooms are located in 5 traditional buildings. The foot bath in the garden gives the feel of a pool villa. Each of the 5 independent buildings (named Mureung, Duta, Chooam, Mukho, and Mangsang to accommodate 3-4 guests in each building) has an upper floor of which the three sides can be opened to command an unobstructed view. The outdoor foot bath in the center of the garden with pine trees relieves fatigue, and the soothing scent of pine trees completes the ambiance. It is possible to cook food in the room. Each room also has a bathroom equipped with bidet and a shower booth. The recently constructed buildings are also handicapped-friendly. There is a parking space exclusive for these guests. There is also no raised spot at the gate and the threshold is made very low for easy entrance and exit. Various tools such as Tuho, Yut, Jegi, and top are ready for playing traditional games. You can likewise try wearing hanbok, Korean traditional clothes. Gangneung Bau-gil Road [Course 5]

Gangneung Bau-gil Road is a 150-km walking trail from Baekdudaegan Mountain Range to Gyeongpo and Jeongdongjin. The 10 walking courses that make up Bau-gil Road wind around mountains and seas, offering a scenic view to anyone taking any of the courses. “Bau” means “rock” in Gangwon-do dialect. When the people of Gangwon-do refer to Gangwon-do in a friendly way, they call it “Gamjabau.” Like the name, Gangneung Bau-gil features nature and human-friendly trekking courses surrounded by nature. By traveling on foot, people can enjoy the tranquil scene and the scent of pine trees from the forest that make up almost 70% of the routes. [Gangneung Bau-gil Course 5] This 16 km-long route along the coast includes tourist attractions such as Sacheonjin-ri Haebyeon (Beach) Park, Gyeongpo Beach, Gyeongpo Lake, Heo Gyun and Heo Nanseolheon Memorial Park, and Namhangjin Beach. Collect shells near the beach, enjoy the view from the deck, and take leisurely stroll on Korea's longest and lushest pine grove path. The lakeroad in Gyeongpo, as well as the Chodang Solbat-gil (pine grove road) at Heo Gyun and Heo Nanseolheon Memorial Park makes this a beloved trekking attraction.
