Naebyeonsan Mountain (내변산)

The Byeonsanbando Peninsula has a shoreline that stretches 99 kilometers, protruding into the west sea in Jeollabuk-do, with the Saemangeum, the world’s longest man-made sea barrier, to the north and Gomsoman Bay at its south shore. The peninsula is part of Byeonsanbando National Park, which is widely known for its natural beauty. Its interior mountain range is known as Naebyeonsan Mountain (Inner Byeonsan Mt.) while the outer region near the sea is known as Oebyeonsan Mountain (Outer Byeonsan Mt.). The center of Mt. Naebyeonsan includes the highest peak of Byeonsanbando peninsula, Uisangbong Peak (509 meters) and Nakjodae (Sunset Viewpoint), Wolmyeongam Hermitage, Bongnaegugok Valley as well as Jiksopokpo Waterfall. The surrounding mountains and valleys of Mt. Byeonsan are not particularly high, standing at an altitude of around 500-600 meters, but the magnificent formation of mountains and valleys as well as the breathtaking view of the sunset from Nakjodae make it a must-see sight. The center of Mt. Osong International Bio Industry Exposition in Korea

Osong International Bio Industry Exposition in Korea will take place at Osong Biovalley (near Osong KTX Station) and is sponsored by Chungcheongbuk-do, Ministry of Trade, Industry & Energy, and Cheongju City. With a theme of “The Secret of Life, Beautiful Future,” the expo aims to develop and promote Chungcheongbuk-do’s bio industry field. The festival is in its 10th year and 223 copmanies from all over the globe will participate. The expo is dived into themed halls like a Bio Future Universe Pavilion, varied hands-on participation halls, the Industrial Hall and others related to the bio industry.

Damyang Songgangjeong Pavilion
Jeollanam-do(Damyang-gun)

Songgangjeong is a pavilion located in Wongang-ri, Goseo-myeon, Damyang-gun, Jeollanam-do Province. It was registered as Jeollanam-do Provincial Monument No. 1 on January 29, 1972. Joseon Dynasty poet Jeong Cheol (pen name, Songgang) composed his famed poem “Samiingok” from this pavilion. Next to it presently stands the Samingok memorial stone. The two structures at this site, Hwanbyeonkdang and Sigyeongjeong, are collectively referred to as the “Relics of Jeong Songgang.”

Jirisan History Museum

A guide map of North Korean red guerrilla routes on Jirisan Mountain can be seen in front of the museum and the museum explains the history of North Korean fighters in the area. The North Korean partisans didn’t surrender even after the Korean War ended. The Jirisan History Museum shows the guns used at the time and visitors can also get to know the life of slash-and-burn farmers living in the area of Jirisan Mountain. Ulleungdo Lighthouse

Ulleungdo Lighthouse was first lit in 1958 as a guiding light for boats coming to and from Ulleungdo Island. The lighthouse is a round, white concrete structure rising 7.6 meters high with a light reaching as far as 50 kilometers away. The hiking trail up to the Ulleungdo lighthouse is a natural, narrow path among groves of trees. The gentle slope is surrounded by uniquely shaped cliffs, so it is a popular hiking course for tourists.

The vast region of the Gurye Special Tourist Zone comprises Toji-myeon, Gwangui-myeon and Sandong-myeon, which has a river and an open field surrounding the mountainous area. Every part of Gurye deserves the title of Special Tourist Zone for offering many things to see. Well-known for its rich soil, the most outstanding natural resources of Gurye is Jirisan National Park, the first to be designated as a national park, and Seomjingang River. The park offers diverse hiking trails and has mountain retreats for backpackers. Flowing from Gokseong to Hadong, Seomjingang River creates a tranquil ambience. The cleanest ever in Korea, a large number of marsh snails and sweetfish live in this river. Guryongpo 5-Day Market

About 8km past Pohang Hyeongsan Rotary and Hyeongsangyo Bridge, you will see the entrance to the town of Guryongpo-eup and a tourist map of Guryongpo beside it. In Guryongpo-eup, the Guryongpo Five-Day Market is held on the 3rd, 8th, 13th, 23rd, and 28th of every month. The Five-Day Market is held not only at the market, but also at areas around Changjucheon Stream. The market first started when a  small village was formed around Guryongpo Port. In the 1950s and 60s, when Guryongpo was incorporated into the county of Yeongil-gun, Guryongpo Market flourished because it became the main market of Yeongil-gun County. Nowadays, thanks to the rows of seafood restaurants inside, the market became even more popular among seafood lovers. The market carries a wide variety of fresh vegetables and produce, herbs, grains, and regional specialties. The seafood at the market is delivered fresh from Guryongpo Port. The squid at Guryongpo Port, which is also the specialty of the market, makes up about 70% of the total catch in Gyeongsangbuk-do. The market is also frequently visited by seafood gourmets for its squid.
