Chuseok Feast of National Museum of Korea

The National Folk Museum of Korea will host an event in celebration of Chuseok (Korean Thanksgiving Day), featuring abundant hands-on programs, exhibitions, and performance perfect for enjoying Chuseok with full of joy. The event prepares 44 different programs including seasonal customs, folk games, traditional art programs, various folk performances and more, to make a special and memorable Chuseok holiday.

Jeju Fire Festival

The Jeongwol Daeboreum Field-Burning Festival, also known as the Jeju Fire Festival, has secured its position as one of the major festivals representing Jeju. It will light up Jeju with the theme: “Using fire to spread the message of hope out into space.”This year, the title of the festival has changed to the Jeju Field-Burning Festival. The festival period has also changed. It now runs from the first Thursday of March to the Sunday of the same week, also the time of gyungchip, a day marked in Korea for when animals end their hibernation and begin to come out of their holes and homes in preparation for spring.The Jeju Field-Burning Festival is for cattle and horses by burning off old and wilted grass, as well as to kill vermin on the fields. According to the tradition, from late winter until early spring, the local villagers would start a fire on the fields. This was called bangae, one of the oldest stock farming skills. The festival has reinterpreted this tradition with a modern look and made itself a marketable tourism product.The festival started off in 1997 and has become one of the major winter festivals in Jeju since 1999. It is now notable across not just the nation, but internationally as well, as it was certified as a recommended festival by the Ministry of Culture, Sports and Tourism in 2001. A festival magazine also nominated this festival as number one amongst the other top festivals in Korea. The Jeju Field-Burning Festival means “spring in the air” and thus marks the celebration of the arrival of spring, and the festival will entertain visitors with a variety of activities and programs in addition to  field burning.

Busan Port Festival

Busan Port Festival has been held annually since 2008 to introduce one of the five top ports in the word, Busan Port, and offer a variety of programs, combined with Busan port-related industry, culture and education. Also, related corporations, organizations and universities take part in the festival to introduce the world-class port festival all over the world. Nearly 30 programs are planned for visitors of families, friends, and couples alike. One of the outstanding programs featured at the festival is the Busan Port Tour, in which visitors get on a ship to see North Port. Another popular program is the Embarkment Experience that displays a naval vessel and marine police vessel, both of which are rare to see. Busan Port Parade offers a dynamic performance and music, and Busan Port Stamp Tour is available to enjoy various exhibitions and hands-on programs at the National Maritime Museum and other festival facilities.

Seosan Chrysanthemum Festival

Seosan Chrysanthemum Festival takes place at in apple orchard in Gagu-ri, Gobuk-myeon, Seosan-si, Chungcheongnam-do. The festival grounds are decorated with color chrysanthemum exhibitions amidst bright red apples. Visitors can enjoy taking photos of the fully blooming flowers and ripe apples at this festival full of the scent of autumn.  

Seogwipo Chilsimni Festival

Seogwipo Chilsimni was originally was the name of a 27 km strip of land from Seongeup Village to Seogwipo Harbor in Jeju Island. However, over the years it has come to mean “homeland” for Jeju citizens. The Seogwipo area is also one of the most popular tourist destinations in Jeju due to its beautiful ocean landscapes.The festival’s program includes folk performances rooted in Jeju’s history, legends, and natural environment. There are also a variety of ocean sports activities, which are very popular with visitors.

Cheongdo Bullfighting Festival

* The festival is postponed until further notice. The Cheongdo Bullfighting Festival celebrates the long tradition of bullfighting in the Gyeongsangbuk-do Province. Drawing over half a million visitors annually since its inception in 1999, the festival is the largest bullfighting championship in the country. In addition to the bullfighting championship, the festival offers a number of exciting events including performances, hands-on experience programs, and exhibitions of the history of bullfighting, local agriculture, cows, etc.

Korea World Travel Fair

Korean World Travel Fair, Korea’s longest and most reliable travel fair, will take place. Yeongdong Grape Festival

Yeongdong in southern Chungcheongbuk-do Province is the largest producer of grapes in Korea. Yeongdong Grape is known for its sweet, fresh flavor and for having a great, sunlight-rich climate and stark temperature contrasts between day and night. Every year, in celebration of its top crop, Yeongdong hosts a festival where visitors pick grapes in a vineyard or fish them out of a pool, followed by using them to make different types of food, such as wine, chocolate, dry persimmon, and more, and simply enjoy the beautiful scenery of Yeongdong Town all the while.
