Millennial Anniversary of the Tripitaka Koreana
Gyeongsangnam-do(Hapcheon-gun)

‘Goryeo Daejanggyeong,’ also known as the Eighty-thousand Tripitaka or the Tripitaka Koreana, is a set of ancient Buddhist scripture woodblocks housed in Haeinsa Temple in Hapcheon-gun County or Gyeongsannam-do. Venerated as the assemblage of Korean philosophical culture, the Tripitaka is desginated as a UNESCO World Cultural Heritage, and also was listed on the UNESCO Memory of the World register in June 2007. A myriad of special exhibitions and programs are scheduled to be held during the festival period in order to raise awareness of the meaning and value of the ancient woodcrafts, while sustaining the thousand-year-old wisdom of the Tripitaka in the new era.

Daegaya Experience Festival

Daegaya (42-562) was a nation that inhabited the Gyeongsangnam-do province of Korea around the 4th Century. Daegaya was a sophisticated nation that even at this early age possessed extremely high standards of culture. They created the Gayageum (a twelve-stringed traditional Korean harp) and played a large role in establishing the culture of music. They had dealings with China and Japan and excavated relics indicate they had a significant influence on the wider world. This festival will immerse visitors in the ancient history of Korea’s ‘Daegaya’. The festival program includes an exhibition of ancient relics, and visitors can take part in making Mokseons (wooden ships) that the Daegaya nation used to trade with other societies. The festival grounds are connected with a nearby farming village so visitors can pick strawberries and experience the Korean farming lifestyle.

E-World Starlight Festival

Introduction E-World Starlight Festival is held with ten million lights in an area of 120,000 pyeong around E-World and 83 Tower. Hot-air balloons, roses, and masks light decorations and other events will catch people’s eyes at this carnival-like festival. The events start at night and large characteristic trees are decorated along the 200m Light Road, as well as a Umbrella Road, Carnival Road, and photo zone created by 1,000 lights. Sanjeonghosu Lake · Myeongseonsan Mountain Eulalia Festival 2016
