Geumnam-ro Street

Geumnam-ro Street used to be in the government office quarters, and is now the center of the city's finacial sphere, with many banks, insurance companies and public offices lining the street. During the May 18 Movement, the citizens gathered at Geumnam-ro Steet and marched together to express their sadness and give support for the sublimation of the nation. In modern times, the street serves as a meeting space for citizens, with an underground shopping mall and a plaza beneath a fountain, where events and performances freely take place. * Total length: 2.3㎞

Sehwa Beach

Opened in 1980, Sehwa Beach may not be a big beach, but has beautiful clear cobalt blue waters. The beach stretches for approximately 200 meters with a distance of approximately 30-40 meters from the shore. Its location nearby Sehwa-eup provides visitors with convenient access of accommodations and other facilities. Nearby attractions include Crinum Lily Habitat, Byeolbangjin Fortress, and Seokdawon Park. Length 1km, x_width 30-40m, slope 5 degrees, average depth 1-2m.

Hwanseongul Cave

Hwanseongul Cave is the biggest lime stone cave in Korea. Its length is 6.5 km and it features fantastic stalagmites, stalactites, and about 10 lakes and waterfalls. Some spots of interest include stalactites that look like the Great Wall of China and many other uniquely shaped figures.The mercury inside of the cave keeps it at a cool 12-24℃ in the summer and 8-9℃ in the winter. It takes about 30-40 minutes to the entrance and approximately one hour to look around the cave. Keep in mind that the steep slope at the entrance may be difficult for the elderly and young children.

Global Village Folk Museum (지구촌민속교육박물관)

The Global Village Folk Museum is a public museum housed in and affiliated with the Seoul Education Research & Information Institute. The museum displays relics from various countries, helping visitors and locals broaden their horizons by learning about folk cultures from around the world. Approximately 1,500 items are on display at the museum: 922 from Asia, 228 from Europe, 162 from the Americas, 121 from Africa, and 64 from Oceania. When categorized according to theme, 512 items are related to folk art, 74 are related to folk religion, 625 are folk life, 86 are fire starters, 37 are weapons, and the remainder fall into smaller groups. The museum has been designated an “Experience-oriented Education Zone” of Seoul.

The Story of Admiral Yi Sun-shin

If you avoid battles to preserve your life, you will die." - Nanjung Ilgi (War Diary of Admiral Yi Sun-shin) One of the best naval commanders Korea has ever known, a statue of Yi Sun-shin was installed at Gwanghwamun Square before King Sejong the Great to celebrate the 465 anniversary of his birth. On April 28, 2010, The Story of Admiral Yi Sun-shin was opened in the basement of Sejong Center to commemorate his life and accomplishments. Located next to The Story of King Sejong, the exhibit is divided into 8 experience zones further focused on 12 themes related to Admiral Yi's life, ranging from determination and devotion to loyalty of country and countrymen. The museum uses the latest in digital technology to bring this great hero to life. Another great attraction to the museum is the turtle war-ship made famous by Admiral Yi shrunk down to 55% of the real size. Despite the down-size, the ship is still big enough for guests to board and row the oars, with a digital display of the ocean waves playing on moniters all around for a fun 4-D experience.

A new leap in aerospace and aircraft history has been made on Jeju Island with the grand opening of the Jeju Aerospace Museum on April 24, 2014. The Jeju Aerospace Museum (JAM) is an aviation and space-themed state-of-the-art museum that provides both education and entertainment through its exhibitions and experience programs. Inside, visitors can find items that are representative of the world's history in aerospace technology and space science. One can also trace the footsteps of the Korean Air Force from the retired planes displayed in the hall. Cherry blossoms cover Simni (10ri*) Cherry Blossom Road from Hwagae Market to Ssanggyesa Temple. Along with Gurye's sansuyu flowers, Hwagae's cherry blossoms symbolize the onset of spring at Jirisan Mountain. Every year in March and April, the cherry blossom road draws in many visitors.*ri is a traditional Korean measurement unit; 10ri is approximately 4km.

Gunsan Japanese-style House of Sinheung-dong

Gunsan Japanese-style House of Sinheung-dong was designated as Registered Cultural Heritage No. 183 in 2005. The area of Sinheung-dong, where the Hirotsu House is located, was a residential area for the wealthy class during the Japanese occupation period and the Hirotsu House was constructed by Hirotsu, a man who ran a linen shop. A lot of Korean movies and dramas such as ‘The General’s Son’, ‘Fighter in the Wind’, and ‘Tazza’ were filmed in this house. The house is a typical Japanese two-story timber house, keeping the original forms of its roof, outer walls, inside area and the Japanese-style garden which has significant meaning in regards to the architecture history.
