Gangwon-do(Chuncheon-si)

Built in October 1973, Soyang Dam is Asia's largest and the world's fourth largest rock-fill dam. It stands 123m high and 530m long, and can generate 200,000kW-h of electricity. It serves multiple purposes including flood control, hydroelectric power generation, flood control, irrigation, and fishing. It holds 29 million ㎥ of water, which has become Soyangho Lake, Korea's largest man-made lake. Spanning a large area that borders the Gangwon-do cities and districts of Chuncheon, Hongcheon, Yanggu and Inje, the lake is often referred to as an "inland sea". Passenger ships bound for Yanggu and Inje run along the 60㎞-long water route that leads to Seoraksan Mountain.


Gangwon-do(Goseong-gun)

Goseong-gun’s Hwajinpo Aquarium (화진포 해양박물관) is located in the Hwajinpo area of Gangwondo Province and consists of two exhibition rooms with one room featuring a total of 40,000 or 1,500 species shellfish including rare shellfish, crustaceans, coral, fossils and a stuffed specimens; and the other displaying 125 species of 3,000 fish living in fish tanks of varying sizes and shapes designed and equipped in accordance with the characteristics and habitats of each species of fish. There is a 300 ton overhead underwater tunnel on the first floor of the fish exhibition room. The second floor is home to the Ocean Beach and Beautiful East Sea Exhibitions; the Invertebrate Animal Center along with a 3-D Theater that shows films like "Hwajinpo Becomes a Lake", "Ocean Day", and the "Amazing Underwater Trip.


Gangwon-do(Inje-gun)

Oseam (오세암), is an annex of the larger Baekdamsa Temple (백담사), it is a small Buddhist temple built in 644 under the reign of Queen Seondeok of the Shilla Dynasty. It is the home of the famous legend that provided inspiration for the production of Oseam the movie, and the animated film. It is a popular meditation venue for Buddhist monks and famous poets, including Siseup Kim and Yongun Han, who are said to have stayed here. It lies against the backdrop of Gwaneumbong Peak and is surrounded by the many scenic tourist attractions of Mt Seorak.


Gangwon-do(Inje-gun)

Sibiseonnyeotang Valley (Valley of the Twelve Angels’ Bath) is located at the base Seoraksan Mountain. It is also referred to as Tangsugol or Tangsudong Valley. The valley got its name from a myth that angels once came down to bathe in its flowing rivers. However, there are only eight baths.Due to fluvial erosion, there is a steep hole in this valley, and many baths and waterfalls of various shapes are stretched over an 8 km distance. Pass Ungbong Waterfall and the first bath and Dok-tang appear. Then walk past Buk-tang, Rainbow-tang, Peach-tang, and the path will end with the last bath, Yong-tang.Of these baths, the 7th bath is called Peach-tang, named after the traditional shape of the bath. The deeply delved rock behind the back of the waterfall is more beautiful than the bath under the waterfall. Past the Peach-tang is another clean, steep bath. From there, a 5-minute walk to the right will lead you to another waterfall and a pool. The water from Daeseungryeong and Mt.Ansan is connected to Namgyo-ri, Buk-myeon. This is an 8-km valley, which takes approximately two hours from the baths to Namgyo-ri. There are iron bridges over the baths for visitors to cross.


Gangwon-do(Taebaek-si)

The Taebaek Coal Museum is a place where you can learn about the history of Korea’s coal industry through the well-organized exhibitions.* The exhibitions will win the attention of visitors because:i) the unique story-telling method of the exhibitions is both interesting and eye-catching;ii) the exhibitions are presented in a way that facilitates the visitors’ understanding and take advantage of a spacious venue;iii) excavation and coal-collecting techniques are demonstrated by means of videos and mannequins;iv) various technologies are integrated into the simulation system, including special lighting, sound effects, and other mechanisms to enhance reality. 


Gangwon-do(Inje-gun)

Bangdong Mineral Spring is located in Bangdong-ri in Girin-myeon. It is so renowned that it has been designated as one of the Great Mineral Springs of Korea. The water has a high content of carbon that makes it sparkle, and it tastes like Korean 7-up when sugar is added. In addition to carbon, the water also contains iron, manganese, and fluorine, making it effective in curing gastric problems and helping digestion.According to legend, there lived a simmani (ginseng digger) 300 years ago who, one day, dug a 60-year old wild ginseng in Bangdong-ri. Called yukgumandal, the ginseng was known to have been a great medicine of mystery. From the spot where the ginseng was dug came a mineral spring, which became today’s Bangdong Mineral Spring. The mineral spring has continued to attract people since the first day the ginseng was found and people who have drunk its water are said to have experienced various beneficial effects.Bangdong Mineral Spring is also close to the woods, several valleys, and waterfalls. With Bangtaesan Natural Recreation Forest nearby, the mineral spring is indeed one of the most popular tourist attractions of Bangdong-ri.


Gangwon-do(Inje-gun)

Jangsudae (장수대) is a traditional Korean house surrounded by a pine tree forest. It was built where the waterfall stream meets the Hangyecheon Stream, and Jayangjeon was originally built here. General Oh Deuk-Jun proposed to establish this site to pray for the souls of the soldiers who died in the Korean War. The south Korean soldiers built this traditional villa and named it Jangsudae. Lee Eun-Sang (1903-1982) wrote poems of the sorrow that the war had brought while he was at this place. Across the villa is the Jangsudae ticket booth, and this is the starting point of the mountain hiking of Daeseung Falls and Daeseungryeong. Nearby Jangsudae is Daesueng Falls and Oknyeotang, which is named after the story that an angel was relaxing at the waterfall and was chased by a large centipede and had to run away to this bath. This site is a popular tourist site for the Gama-tang, Hangyesanseong Fortress, and Haneulbyeok where tourists come to relax. This villa has a capacity of 100 people, which is large for a villa in the mountains. The high peak you see over Hangyecheon Stream from Jangsudae is Mt. Garisan. It forms the mountaintop with Jugeokbong Peak and Three brother-bong peaks.


Gangwon-do(Chuncheon-si)

Located just outside of Seoul, Samaksan Mountain and Deungseon Fall is the perfect destination for weekend outings for those in the Seoul and Gyeonggi areas. The most popular hiking course on the mountain (appropriate even for beginners) starts from one waterfall (which is fairly small with a x_height of 10m) and passes two other waterfalls, and Seonnyeotang. The course runs all the way to the top of Samaksan (654m above sea level). The mountain has several steep valleys and unique rock formations covered with thick forests. Looking down from the top, a stunning panoramic view of Uiamho Lake and Bukhangang River (and its many small islands) unfolds below.
