Jeollanam-do(Wando-gun)

Located about 12㎞ off the southwestern coast of Korea, Bogildo Island is accessible by ferry from both Wando-gun and Haenam-gun in Jeollanam-do Province. The island features fishing villages, hiking trails, beaches, evergreen forests as well as several historic buildings and gardens. Furthermore, nearby attractions include Nohwado Island, which is connected to Bogildo by bridge, and Suando Island. Surrounded by blue sea, Bogildo is considered the gem of all islands in this area. Island History The first people to set foot on Bogildo Island are Confucian scholars during the Joseon Dynasty (1392-1910). The relics of two such men, 17th century poet Yun Seon-do and politician Uam Song Si-yeol, still remain on the island. Yun had been on his way to Jeju Island when he stopped on Bogildo, and was so taken aback by its beauty that he ended up living on the island. He built and resided in the Buyongdong gardens, which have been well-preserved to this day. Uam Song had also been on his way to Jeju Island, when the boat stopped on Bogildo. Here, Uam Song carved a famous poem into a rock, which can still be seen today.


Jeollanam-do(Yeosu-si)

Yeosu Ocean Railbike is comprised of a 3.5 kilometer-long open track that follows the rocky coast of Yeosu. Passing through the open air as well as a tunnel section, it is a unique and exciting experience anyone can enjoy at a leisurely pace. The track and rail bikes undergo regular safety inspections, meaning it's a completely safe way to enjoy Yeosu's beautiful coast.


Jeollanam-do(Gokseong-gun)

Situated at the joining point of two rivers, Seomjin and Boseong, Amnok Resort is renowned as a summer vacation spot with a 100,000m² beach. Since mosquitos are rare here, it is continuously gaining popularity as a family camping site and Banweol Bridge and Cheol Bridge make for beautiful scenery. The popular fishing spot located at the lower reaches of Boseong River attracts many anglers. The riverside is lined with various native local restaurants where you can taste Amnok’s specialities such as king crab soup, roasted sweet fish, and Maeuntang (pepper-pot soup).  


Jeollanam-do(Mokpo-si)

Established in June 1920, the building housing the Mokpo Modern History Museum used to be the Mokpo branch of the Oriental Development Company (Dongyang Cheoksik Jusik Hoesa). This Renaissance-style building dates back to the Japanese colonial era and serves a reminder of the Korea's past. The building is designated Jeollanam-do Monument No. 174.


Jeollanam-do(Damyang-gun)

Myeonangjeong Pavilion (Jeollanam-do Provincial Monument No.6) is located on the slopes of Mt. Jebongsan in Jewol-ri, Bongsan-myeon, Damyang-gun County. The pavilion was constructed in 1533 by Song Sun (1493~1583), who built it as a place for writing poems. After its construction, the pavilion served as a meeting place for scholars and intellectuals and was even frequented by Lee Hwang (1501~1570), a representative Confucian scholar who is pictured on the 1,000-won bill. The roof of Myeonangjeong Pavilion was originally made of reeds, straw, grass and other materials, which could not withstand the elements. After several repairs, the building was developed into the wooden structure that it is today. From the back of pavilion, you can see the mountain ranges and open wide fields; renowned scholars’ poems are engraved on the wooden panels that decorate the pavilion walls.  


Jeollanam-do(Sinan-gun)

Cheonsaseom Bunjae Park (1004 Island Park) is a place for people to relax and enjoy nature. This eco-friendly ecological park has a spacious sea garden covering an area of 50 million pyeong, a relaxation space surrounded by nature, and a learning space. The park hopes to attract more visitors as it continues to hold various exhibits about potted plants and sculptures.


Jeollanam-do(Naju-si)

Naju National Museum displays artifacts found near Yeongsangang River region and preserves artifacts excavated from throughout the Jeolla region. While most national museums are found within the city, Naju National Museum is the first national museum to be located in a rural countryside. Its location provides a perfect relaxing atmosphere for visitors to take time and appreciate what the museum has to offer. Although the museum may be isolated from urban cities, it uses modern technology to provide convenient museum experience. Naju National Museum is the first national museum to integrate NFC feature within smart phones with the exhibition guide system for all exhibition halls. This integrated feature acts as a mean to provide communication both ways, as visitors can receive information guides and upload them on social media via smart phones. In addition to the collection of artifacts, the open-type storage rooms and the hands-on activities offered at the experience center provide opportunities to personally witness and experience the process of preservation and storage of cultural assets.


Jeollanam-do(Yeosu-si)

Yeosu Seonso Historic Site is located in Sijeon-dong, Yeosu-si, Jeollanam-do. This shipyard houses the Turtle Ship designed by Admiral Yi Sun-sin and Na Dae-yong, who were renowned for their shipbuilding skills during the Japanese Invasion of Korea. The shipyard site remains a gulgang (small stream to dock ships), a stone moorage for anchoring ships, a dolbeoksu (stone pole), and a Segeomjeong site.


Jeollanam-do(Mokpo-si)

According to a legend, Samhakdo Island was the dream of Mokpo residents, along with Yudalsan Mountain, before it became the land it is today. This island is filled with the loneliness of women waiting to see their husbands who voyaged out to sea, the hope of merchants waiting for their fishing boats, and the sorrow of people who have passed away. Samhakdo is a rich area where the people of Mokpo share their emotions.


Jeollanam-do(Yeosu-si)

Geumodo Island, included in the area of Dadohaehaesang National Park, has a shape resembling a big terrapin. Many fables, folk songs and folk games have been told of this island. It features dense forests along with wild ginseng and used to be an area for hunting deer, available only to the Royal House during the Joseon period. Also, the island is a spawning areas for Black Porgy (Gamseongdom). Including the black porgy, the fishing site is suitable for other types of fish such as a red sea bream, rock bream and more. 35 species of rare birds such as brown shrike, eagle-owl and more are living in the island, so it is regarded as an animal paradise. * Composition of island: 37 islands including Geumodo Island * Area: 42.34㎢
