21th DongGang International Photo Festival 2023  The Magical Unknowns We cordially invite you to submit your creative work to the prestigious 21st DongGang International Photo Festival, taking place from July 21st to September 24th, 2023, in the picturesque Yeongwol, Korea. ▲ DongGang International Photo Festival 2022 Curiosity, the desire to explore the unknown, is an inherent human need. The unknown may encompass not only what is completely unfamiliar but also what is presently disregarded or avoided. Often, uncharted territories have had the most profound impact on human history, whether previously unknown, unimagined, or simply neglected. The unknown need not be solely enigmatic or sacred. Whatever it may be, it holds its own irreplaceable magic. Those who are receptive to the unknown have the privilege of unlocking its mysteries and experiencing its wonder. Venturing into the unknown can be an extremely liberating and world-changing experience. What stories and secrets do the countless mysteries of the world hold? How will these magnificent narratives unfold? The sheer thrill of the hidden secrets and magic within the seemingly mundane and trivial can be utterly exhilarating! Individuals and collectives are welcome to apply; individuals should submit between 8 - 12 photographs from a particular series or body of work. Selected 15 - 20 artists including ‘Artist of the year’ (individual artist or 1 team of winner) will benefit from: A-year-long exhibition that exposures at the DIPF Festival - inclusion in art magazine, any related press (long term festival representation and promotion on official website, publications, catalog that being seen by a substantial number of visual arts professionals and the media) where the works viewed by an international panel of influential experts in the field of photography * 'Artist of the year' - solo exhibition at DIPF (production - printing, framing or related presentation material will be provided) and eligible for travel and accommodation to attend the opening.   SUBMISSION GUIDELINES   1. GENERAL Objectives DongGang International Photo Festival aims to feature a quality selection of photography projects from around the world. DIPF’s open call is devoted to offering a platform and supporting photography, showcasing photography and related media from emerging and established artists. Venue_ The selected photographs will be presented to DongGang International Photo Festival in DongGang in main exhibition space, outdoor space and screening at the opening ceremony. Dates_ The Main Program of 21th DongGang International Photo Festival will be held from Jul. 21st to Sep. 24th, 2023 Eligibility_Submission to DongGang International Photo Festival 2023 is open to artist from around the world. Entry Deadline_Submissions must be made before May 29th, 2023, 23.59 hrs. Naeyeonsan Bogyeongsa County Park
Gyeongsangbuk-do(Pohang-si)

Mt. Naeyeonsan (내연산) in Pohang, Gyeongsangbuk-do is located in the southern Taebaek Mountains. Hywangrobong Peak, the highest peak, is 930 meters above sea level. The ancient Bogyeongsa Temple (보경사) is located on this mountain, as are numerous beautiful waterfalls. If you reach Gwaneum Falls after passing by Ssangsaeng Falls, Sambo Falls, Boyeon Falls, and Jamyong Falls, you will find Gwaneum Cave. After continuing over a viaduct, you will finally come across Yeonsan Falls, the most magnificent and splendid waterfall among the 12 on Mt. Naeyeonsan. With its pristine waters and surrounding pine forest, many visitors have fallen in love with Yeonsan Falls.

Soyangho Lake Ferry (소양호 유람선)
Gangwon-do(Chuncheon-si)

Soyanggang Lake is also referred to as an inland sea. The lake is served by high-speed tourist ferries connecting the 27km stretch from Soyanggang Dam to Yanggu-eup in just 30 minutes, and the 64km stretch to Bupyeongri Pier in Inje-gun in two hours. There is also a high-speed cruise to see the landscape of Naeseorak Mountain two times a day from May to October. In between sparsely dotted islands, there are enclosed fish farms and in the valleys near the lake, people can enjoy fishing over 50 species of freshwater fish like leather carp, trout, eel, and smelt.

Yeongil Bay Hot Springs
Gyeongsangbuk-do(Pohang-si)

The construction of this huge hot spring complex started in Yeongil Bay in 1988 after it was found out that the Yeongil Bay has the highest geothermal heat in Korea while drilling for oil in 1974. The water’s main ingredients contain healthy minerals such as calcium, natrium, fluorine, magnesium, chlorine, sulfuric acid, fluorine, zinc, germanium and radium. Yeongil Bay Hot Springs maintains its water with alkali bicarbonate at a pH of 9.43. The temperature of the water is somewhat low though at 35℃. The hot springs help to recover from fatigue, to help beauty care, anti-aging, neuralgia, heart disease, and liver functions. The water here also has a very unique texture.

Singwangsa Temple
Sejong()

Singwangsa Temple is located on the Nojeoksan Mountain. It is estimated to have been built 160 years ago, and renovated in 1920 by head priest Lee Gyeong-jik. The temple, originally called Togoljeol or Suryangsa, was renamed Singwangsa by monk Hyewon in 1980.

Woljeongsa Museum (월정사 성보박물관)
Gangwon-do(Pyeongchang-gun)

Located within Woljeongsa Temple in Pyeongchang-gun, Gangwon-do, Woljeongsa Museum was founded in October 1999, and began displaying treasures and artifacts from some 60 plus temples in the southern part of Gangwon region. Currently, the museum houses Sangwonsa Temple’s Jungchanggwonseonmun (National Treasure No. 292) and Woljinseokbo (Treasure No. 745), the remains of Octagonal nine-story pagoda (National Treasure No 48), and many other treasures.

Geumseongsanseong Fortress
Jeollanam-do(Damyang-gun)

Geumseongsanseong Fortress in Geumseongsan Mountain (603m) forms a boundary between two small villages located on the border of two provinces (Geumseong-myeon, Damyang-gun, Jeollanam-do and Sunchang-gun, Jeollabuk-do) and is one of the three popular mountains of the Honam region (the Southwestern region of Korea that includes Jeollanam-do and Jeollabuk-do). The fortress is surrounded by two walls connecting Cheolmabong Peak, Undaebong Peak, and Jangdaebong Peak. The total length of the outer wall is 6.486 meters and inner wall is 859 meters. Historians are uncertain about the year the fortress was built, and have concluded that it dates back to the Three Kingdoms Period (57 BCE – 676 CE) based on an examination of the ruins and remains discovered in the surrounding area. The fortress was reconstructed in 1409 and repaired in 1610 after the Imjin War (1592-1598). Time & Blade Museum (타임앤블레이드 박물관)
Gyeonggi-do(Paju-si) , Paju(Heyri Art valley)

The Time & Blade Museum features two floors filled with these items that have shaped the development of humankind. There are many clocks and watches designed over time, including a skeleton-shaped clock. The museum also displays the parts that make up a clock and the tools used to create them.

Daejeon National Cemetery (국립대전현충원)
Daejeon(Yuseong-gu)

Daejeon National Cemetery covers a vast area of land spanning around 330,000㎡. The cemetery is comprised of graves for the deceased patriots, men of national merit, generals, officers, soldiers, etc. Major facilities include the Memorial Tower and Memorial Gate for paying reverence to the patriotic spirits, Patriotic Spirit Exhibition Center displaying photos and articles left by the deceased, and an outdoor exhibition space, where military battle equipments are on display. Other facilities within the cemetery grounds include fountains, statues, sculptures, pavilions, and Hyeonchungji, which is a man-made pond in the shape of the Korean peninsula. The cemetery is well kept with ample rest areas against the backdrop of the beautiful natural landscape.

Joryeongsan Mountain
Gyeongsangbuk-do(Mungyeong-si)

Joryeongsan Mountain divides Mungyeong (Gyeongsangbuk-do) and Goesan (Chungcheongbuk-do), and is situated at the far end of Baekdudaegan (the mountain range connecting Baekdusan and Jirisan). The mountain is picturesque with its surroundings of dense forest, steep rocky areas, strangely shaped peaks and old trees. It has a grand scale of mountain ridge and high altitude. However, as the hiking trail starts at 529m on Ihwaryeong, it is not that tough. Nearby locations include Sinseongbong Peak and Mapaebong Peak, as well as Joryeongsan Recreational Forest.
