Korea Botanic Garden

Founded in 1999, the 105 square-kilometer Korea Botanical Garden grows approximately 1,300 Korean native plants. The Garden is composed of the Indoor Exhibition Hall, Herb Garden, Cultivation Area, Ecosystem Garden, Singal Mountain Path, and Theme Garden. On display are potted plants in the Indoor Exhibition Hall, fragrant herbs such as wild chrysanthemum and chamomile in the Herb Garden, gregarious plants like iris and aster koraiensis in the Cultivation Area, naturally mixed plants in the Ecosystem Garden, and plants with human or animal names, such as the pasque flower, in the Theme Garden. The two kilometer-long Singal Mountain Path, where Mongolian oak trees mingle with azaleas and rhododendron, is a very popular walking course.The Korea Botanical Garden distributes flower seeds to all visitors when they buy tickets, and all types of native flowers can be purchased at the store. Also in the Garden are convenience facilities such as Cafe Bian, serving tea and ice cream, as well as rest rooms and benches. The best season for visiting Korea Botanical Garden is from June to August.

Gyeonggijeon Shrine

Jeollabuk-do(Jeonju-si)

Historic Site No. 339, Gyeonggijeon Shrine was erected in 1410 and holds the portrait of King Tae-jo, the founder of the Joseon Dynasty. The King and his wife’s mortuary tablets are enshrined here at Jogyeong Shrine. The structure was partially destroyed during the invasion of foreign forces from 1592-1598. The existing structure was remodeled in 1614. Inside Gyeonggijeon, the portraits of King Tae-jo and other successive kings such as Sun-jong, Cheol-jong, Yeong-jo and many others can be found on display. The carriage used to move the mortuary tablets as well as carriages used to transport dignitaries and individual chair-like carriages are also on display.

Gugil Ttarogukbap

Daegu(Jung-gu)

Unlike traditional 'gukbap,' which is rice in beef broth based soup, the rice and the soup in 'ttaro-gukbap (ttaro meaning 'separately')' are served separately. It is a speciality in Daegu, and the main dish served at Gugil Ttarogukbap (국일따로국밥). The restaurant makes the broth with beef bones, and adds spices, meat and coagulated ox blood to complete rich and flavorful soup. Meanwhile, the restaurant was designated as a site of master craftsmanship by the Korean Traditional Culture Preservation Committee, as well as an authentic local speciality restaurant in Daegu.
