The annual Dong Gang International Photo Festival, which began in 2002, is held in and around Dong Gang Museum of Photography in Yeongwol-gun, Gangwon-do Province. This festival showcases various themes of photo exhibitions to cater to visitors’ diversified tastes and interests. Along with the regular programs, the festival will also offer educational programs. The Dong Gang Photography Workshop will feature quality lectures by some of the most photographers and theorists from home and abroad such as an open lecture from renowned photographers. The workshop will provide exciting opportunities for the general public, as well as professional photographers.

The Moyang Fortress was built by the region’s citizens in order to block the 1453 invasion of Japanese forces. It is also called the 'Gochang Eupseong'. The circumference of the fortress is measured at 1,684m and it has a x_height of 4~6m with three main gates and various facilities for soldiers. Parts have been burned down and are currently undergoing restoration. The main event of the Gochang Moyang Fortress Festival is the ‘Dapseongdori’, an event where you carry rock on top of your head and round the fortress three times. This ceremony is attended by all the region’s citizens as it is said to cure all illnesses, grant you a long and healthy life, and allow you into Heaven when you die. Aside from the Dapseongdori event, the festival includes a Joseon Dynasty military ceremony and there are many other sights to see.

Jeongeup is well known as the birthplace of the Donghak Peasant Revolution, staged against oppressive corrupt officials. Mt. Naejangsan in Jeongeup is also known as the best place to enjoy autumn leaves. Another worthwhile destination is the city’s National Bullfighting Festival, which features Korea’s unique bullfights. However, it now is also held in autumn to coincide with the glorious autumn foliage season on Mt. Naejangsan. Unlike Spanish bullfights, in which a matador faces the bull, the Korean version of bullfighting has two bulls fighting against each other. Spectators shout enthusiastically as these powerful animals fight to win by pushing and goring their opponent. In addition to the Nationwide Bulls Championship Title Match, which is the main event, there will also be a program featuring a variety of pet animals and a cattle show as well as the photo exhibits. Festival Highlights: Jeongeup ranch and farm products are renowned for their high quality. Located near the bullfighting arena, a promotional pavilion and market sell Jeongeup’s hanu beef, and visitors can purchase high quality beef at inexpensive prices. Sponsored by Yangpyeong-gun Office, the Mulmalgeun Yangpyeong Icefish Festival takes place in Yangpyeong-gun, Gyeonggi-do each winter. Muan is the largest habitat of the White Lotus flower in Asia, spanning 330,000m2 in size. While most lotus flowers are pink, the lotus flowers in Muan are snow white, which is very rare. During the Muan White Lotus Festival festival, visitors can enjoy a landscape filled with white lotus flowers and lotus-themed activities. Festival Guide: The festival starts with a celebration parade. Visitors can enjoy exhibits about lotus flowers and the history of lotus medicine, as well as a photo exhibit and hands-on programs. Activities include making handcrafts with the seeds of lotus flowers, natural dyeing using lotus flowers, making lotus soup, cooking lotus-wrapped rice and more. Different kinds of lotus can be observed at the natural learning garden of water plants, which is on the way to the venue. Festival Hightlights: The highlight of the Muan White Lotus Festival is a boat ride where you can get a nice view of the lotus flowers. Dasan Cultural Festival will take place in the area of Dasan Heritage Site and Dasan Ecological Park in Namyangju-si. The festival has been held annually since 1986 in memory of the spirit of Dasan Jeong Yakyong, a scholar of the late Joseon Dynasty whose hometown was Namyangju-si. During the festival, various performances and hands-on programs will be prepared for visitors.

Gwangju Toechon Tomato Festival takes place in Toechon, which has been growing tomatoes since the 1970s. In addition to programs and performances involving tomatoes, the festival will feature the famous Tomato Well-Being Food Tasting & Exhibition.

For sixty days before and after December 22, the sun will rise from the southeast, and a good place to view this beautiful, natural phenomenon is on Korea’s west coast in Maryang-ri. To celebrate this, the Maryangpo Sunrise Festival is held every year. Visitors here will witness a very special miracle of nature, as they will see the sun rising and setting in the same place.
