Located about 140㎞ southwest of Mokpo, Jeollanam-do, Gageodo Island is one of the remotest islands in southwest Korea. Centered on Doksilsan Mountain (639m, the highest peak in Sinan-gun), the island is surrounded by cliffs making the area perfect as a mystery island. Once featured in a Korean variety show, this place is also beloved by fishing-goers and hikers as it is known for its clean air and waters.

Hiking Course

1) Doksilsan Mountain (shorter way): From the port town of Daeri-maul (il-gu), follow the road for 1.5㎞ towards Saetgae-jae. Take the right fork for about 3㎞ towards the peak of Doksilsan Mountain.
2) Doksilsan Mountain (longer way): From the Sky Park beach located east of Daeri-maeul, take the new pathway up the ridge for about 6㎞ towards the peak.
3) Seomdung-bando Peninsula: Seomdung-bando Peninsula is located 5㎞ from Daeri-maeul.
4) Sam-gu Village: Sam-gu Village is located about 2.5㎞ from Daeri-maeul.
5) Baeknyeon Lighthouse: Daeri-maul → Doksilsan Mountain → Sam-gu VIllage → Baeknyeon Lighthouse (2.5㎞)

※ It takes about 2-3 days and a combination of trails to hike around the entire Gageodo Island.
Daeri-maeul (5㎞) → Doksilsan Mountain (2.5㎞) → Sam-gu Village (2.5㎞) → Baeknyeon Lighthouse (4㎞) → Hangri-maeul (1㎞) → Seomdung-bando Peninsula (5㎞) → Daeri-maeul

To Gageodo Island
Take a passenger ferry bound for Hueksando Island from Mokpo Port Coastal Terminal.
Get off at Gageodo Island.
