Shim’s Tapas, opened in 2006, introduced Spanish tapas to Korea, attracting many young and trend-conscious people in the Hongdae area and foreign residents of Seoul. Located in front of the entrance to Sungkyunkwan University in Daehang-no, the restaurant is owned by Mr. Shapour, who came to Korea in 1993 to study medicine at Hanyang University. He opened the restaurant where he does the cooking himself in 2002 to promote Iranian cuisine.With the helpful advice of a Korean friend who acted as a “taster,” Mr. Shapour slightly modified the recipes of each dish to suit Korean tastes. The most popular dish is the whole chicken curry combo. A chicken is stuffed with various spices and boiled to remove any odor. Then, it is sautéed lightly in oil and served with a pomegranate-sauce curry.The restaurant also serves various types of curry rice. When making your order, you should choose the spiciness level on a scale from 2.0 to 4.0 with level 2.2 being “medium”. If you want to like to have authentic Iranian food, try ordering the Shami kebab rice, a lamb dish seasoned with tomatoes and onions. The menus are available in both Korean and English.

Seochon Traditional Sundae Soup House is considered a must-visit destination. It was shown in the Korean drama series, “Doctors, as a restaurant owned by the father of the main character, Yoo Hye Jung (actress: Park Shin Hye). It is known for its special deep-tasting beef broth, which they brew with marrowbone for 24 hours. Its old-fashioned, traditional style Hanok architecture and its neat interior evokes the Korean traditional castle: Gyeongbokgung and its surroundings. Not only is the Sundae Soup first in its class, the in-house Kimchi is one of the best in its category as well. After the meal, don’t forget to take a photo where the “Doctors” couple, Jiho-Hyejung, enjoyed rice soup.

With a proud 20-year history, Arirang House is famous for its kimchi, which won a prize at the first Kimchi Festival. In 2003, the restaurant collaborated with Shilla Hotel and Paradise Hotel and successfully hosted a royal cuisine demonstration event, contributing to the promotion of Korean cuisine. Arirang House serves delicious Korean cuisine in an elegant style. The food is carefully prepared by 11 chefs, including the chef who has thirty years of experience. The kitchen is divided into the side dish team, the special dish team, and the main course team to prepare a total of thirty or so specialized dishes. The flavors are enhanced by using only the freshest natural ingredients and not using any artificial seasonings. Prices vary by course, and each course comes with raw beef, samhap (a combination of three special foods), assorted raw fish, and steamed short ribs. The bossam kimchi (kimchi with slices of steamed pork) is also one of their specialties.
